David Beckham hit out at England fans after Sven Goran Eriksson’s side was booed off the pitch following last night’s poor performance against Australia.

The boos came as England failed to win their second game in succession, the 3-1 defeat to Australia following England’s dire 2-2 draw with Macedonia.

The England captain said in an after-match interview: “The disappointing thing was the way the fans reacted to the young lads at the end of the game.”

Beckham did concede however that the boos may have been aimed at the first half performance.

“The game was already lost at half-time and maybe the booing at the end was intended as a reflection on our first-half performance,” added the England captain.

“For me it’s a bunch of young lads playing their first game- a lot of them were winning their first caps.

“We all get frustrated at results it’s the same for the players but they’re young lads who deserved a little bit more than that.” he added.
