Tottenham sporting director Damien Comolli insists Dimitar Berbatov will stay at the club, despite rumours claiming he may be set to leave in January.

Berbatov was left on the substitutes bench for Juande Ramos’s first league game in charge at the weekend, which prompted his agent, Emil Dantchev, to travel to England to meet Comolli.

However, the Spurs chief insists that Ramos is a big fan of the Bulgarian and has no intention of letting him leave.

“It is simply not an issue,” said Comolli. “I met with Dimitar’s agent and he assured me Dimitar is not looking for a move in January and simply wants to concentrate on helping the team push up the table.

“He is on a long-term contract with us and Juande (Ramos) sees him as an important part of our plans.”
