Fabio Cannavaro admits he is pleased that David Beckham has enjoyed a successful loan spell at Milan.

LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham is enjoying an impressive loan spell at the San Siro and his renaissance has been rewarded with a recall to the England team for Wednesday’s friendly in Spain.

Cannavaro has praised the quality of his former Real Madrid team-mate, while expressing his hope that 33-year-old Beckham earns a permanent switch to Serie A.

“I am very happy for him, above all because he has gone to Italy and really proved what he can still do,” said the Italy defender.

“A lot of people thought he was past it, that he was now just a model who played football, but he’s not.

“He’s showing instead that he’s a great professional, who has great technical skill, a really great player.

“He can still give a lot to the England team, a lot to Milan. Let’s hope he remains in Italy.”
