Steve Cotterill, who yesterday resigned as manager of first division Stoke City, has been tipped to be unveiled as the new manager of Sunderland.

Reports indicate that Cotterill will work in tandem with Howard Wilkinson, currently England’s technical director.

The north-east club have called a press conference at the Stadium of Light for 11am this morning during which they are expected to confirm the appointment of Cotteril as the successor to Peter Reid who was sacked earlier this week.

Cotterill entered the frame after he told the Stoke City board of his decision to resign.

It is thought that England technical director Wilkinson will be part of a double appointment at the Stadium of Light.
