Lazio’s Paolo Di Canio could face disciplinary action after he made a fascist salute at the end of their 2-1 defeat to Serie A rivals Livorno.

The incident occurred as the 37-year-old striker walked towards the section holding the Lazio supporters. He was fined €10,000 earlier this year for making the same gesture at the end of Lazio’s victory over city rivals Roma.

Livorno keeper Marco Amelia urged the authorities to crack down on Di Canio.

“There are measures that can be taken against such behaviour. I hope they are carried out,” he was quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday.

The incident came at the end of an ill-tempered encounter between Livorno who are known for the left wing views of their supporters and Lazio fans who align themselves with the far right.
