Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has threatened to stop playing for Ivory Coast after being threatened by supporters following the team’s home defeat by Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier.

The Ivory Coast players were verbally abused and threatened by supporters after the 3-2 loss to Cameroon last Sunday in Abidjan. The defeat seriously undermines their chances of reaching next summer’s World Cup finals in Germany.

“If such events should occur (again), I would no longer take the risk to come and play for the national team,” Drogba said during a football programme on French television channel TF1 on Sunday.
