Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez says his side are looking to win Group A after their securing qualification for the first time in their history.
A draw with Germany on Tuesday will see Ecuador top the group.
“Today is a very important day for Ecuador, a historic day,” said Suarez.
“Our idea is to finish as the best team in the first round and then do the same in the second round and continue to improve as much as possible.”
“It’s a day of celebration,” added Colombian-born Suarez.
“We have never qualified for the second stage and this is a fantastic achievement for us.”
The group winners will face the runners-up from Group B.
Ecuador will finish topof the group if they draw against Germany because of a better goal difference.
“We must now enjoy this moment and then concentrate on making a good performance against Germany before we find out who our next rival will be,” said Suarez.
“We haven’t come to the World Cup just for the ride.
“We want to have a starring role and we now want more.”
