Sven Goran Eriksson has played down reports linking him with the managerial position at Real Madrid.

Real are on the lookout for a new coach following the sacking of Brazilian Wanderley Luxemburgo last weekend.

Eriksson is one of a number of managers linked with the vacancy, but the England coach says he has had no contact with anyone from Real.

“Nobody has asked me about anything, I have not had any contact from Real Madrid regarding that (the job),” he told Swedish newspaper Nya Wermlands-Tidningen.

“It’s all just an invention.

“I still have two and half years left (on my England contract), that’s plenty of time and we’ll see what happens.

“This (Real Madrid) is not the kind of job you go looking for, but one that you are offered. And that offer depends on if it fits in with the job I’ve got at the moment or not.”
