Roma striker Vincenzo Montella has threatened to quit international football he is fed up waiting for a call-up.

Montella’s comments come after Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni did not include the striker in his squad for last mmonth’s friendly against Turkey.

“I’ve thought about it (finishing with the national side), and I’m still thinking about it,” the 28-year-old player was quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“What bothers me is that for two years we’veplayed in a certain way and then, just because (Filippo) Inzaghi injures himself, we’ve completely changed tactics when there were people like (Alessandro) Del Piero and I who have similar characteristics,” he continued.

“I just can’t understand it. Even if the first choice wasn’t available there was still an alternative. Instead illogical choices have been made.”

Montella has been unable to emulate his prolific club form for the national team, scoring three goals in 18 appearances, but the Roma man argues that he has not been given a run in the team.

“If you’re in a queue, you score two goals against England but are left waiting then you can make a choice whether to accept it or not,” he said.
