Wolfsburg have named Erik Gerets as their new coach after sacking coach Juergen Roeber.

Saturday’s 5-1 home defeat by Stuttgart was the final straw for the Wolfsburg board, promting the diismissal of Roeber.

Gerets, 49, who was sacked in February by Kaiserslautern, has been charged with ensur9ing the club maintain their Bundesliga staus.

“We’ve got to face the reality that relegation is an issue.” said Wolfsburg commercial manager Peter Pander.

Wolfsburg are 11th in the table, but have the worst record in the Bundesliga since the winter break.

Roeber, the eighth Bundesliga coach to be fired this season, had been Wolfsburg coach for 13 months.
