Moustapha Hadji has joined Espanyol after being released by Aston Villa.

The Moroccan international had his Villa contract cancelled by mutual consent on Monday and within hours had secured a deal with Espanyol.

Hadji had fallen out of favour at Villa Park and had made just one appearance for the club since the appointment of David O’Leary as manager.

The 32-year-old was contracted to Villa outfit until the end of the season but negotiated a release to seal a move to Espanyol. He is currently in Tunisia as a member of Morocco’s Afrcan Nations Cup squad.
