Former Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has revealed that he turned down the chance to coach Real Madrid.

Hitzfeld has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, but he claims that he rejected the chance of a return to the game, by snubbing Real’s offer.

“I don’t have the slightest interest to be back in the spotlight so quickly,” he told Bild.

“I’ll wait until March or April to see if anything takes my eye.

“I’ve turned down many offers and, yes, Real Madrid was among them.

“I still want to keep away from football and go through everything in my head.”

The Spanish club are thought to have approached Hitzfeld after Jose Antonio Camcho resigned in September.
