Owen, who came on as a substitute to score in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Malaga, said he had no complaints about starting on the bench.

The England striker was dropped to the bench despite his recent scoring run for the club’s trip to Malaga. Nonetheless, Owen accepted that her could not be guaranteed a place in the styartinbg eleven.

“I have only been here a couple of months so who am I to throw any kind of strop if I am not playing?” said Owen.

“If I had been here for six years and been scoring 30 goals a season then it might be a different story.

“It’s always disappointing when you don’t start, but what can you do when you are playing with a great group of players?

“You know you are not going to start every game.

“I don’t know if this was the best goal I have scored but they all count. This one was with my left foot – I took a swipe at it and there wasn’t much skill involved.”
