UEFA chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson has revealed that Italy’s bid to stage the 2012 European championships will survive the cut in November.

Italy, Greece and Turkey have made bids while Croatia has made a joint bid with Hungary and Poland have joined up with the Ukraine.

UEFA’s Executive Committee will reduce the number of candidates from five to two or three when they meet on November 8.

Speaking at a UEFA Executive Committee press conference, Olsson said: “In November the committee will cut the number of candidates, leaving two or three.

“Originally it was decided there would be three remaining, but the committee will decide on that.

“The impression is that Italy will make it, together with one of Turkey and Hugary-Croatia.”

Under the new structure, three rounds will be played in the competition, instead of five.
