Newcastle United have completed the signing of Norwegian defender Ronny Johnsen on a short-term contract until January.
The 35-year-old had been without a club since leaving Aston Villa in the summer.
He becomes the first signing by new Newcastle manager Graeme Souness. He has been recruited as a stop gap measure following the departure to Real Madrid of Jonathan Woodgate.
