The Football Association has rescinded the red card given to Frank Lampard in Chelsea’s encounter with Liverpool.

The Chelsea midfielder was adjudged to have fouled Xabi Alonso early in the second half at Anfield on Sunday and was sent off by referee Mike Riley.

Chelsea went on to lose the match 2-0 and later confirmed they would be appealing against the decision.

The FA has reviewed the incident and agreed with Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari that Lampard should not have been sent off.

Lampard had been facing a three-match ban but will not now have to serve a suspension.
