Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has suggested that striker Karim Benzema feels isolated at Real Madrid ahead of his return to Stade Gerland.

Benzema left Lyon for Madrid in the summer, but he has struggled to make an impact and has spent much of the season on the bench.

Aulas believes Benzema feels lost among all the star players at Madrid.

“He’s a bit isolated in the galaxy of Madrid,” he said. “He needs a more personal touch from the coach and with his team-mates to gain confidence.

“It is difficult to do this in a galaxy of stars where there are personal relationships, but Karim needs this because he is young and comes from another environment, another country. I saw him in Madrid and he’s living in a house alone, without furniture.”

Zinedine Zidane, meanwhile, feels it could be a tricky game for Madrid even though Lyon have struggled in Ligue 1 this season.

“They are not the same Lyon who won seven league titles,” he told Real Madrid TV. “Real Madrid must be careful because, for them, this will be the biggest game of the year. They must play in their normal style.

“It will be a great game. There will be a lot of enthusiasm for it. A lot of people will go to the game and watch it on television. Real Madrid are used to playing this type of match.”
