Roma defender Philippe Mexes has revealed that Real Madrid were interested in signing him during the summer transfer window.

However, the French international insistd that he had no desire to leave the Serie A club.

“I am flattered that Real Madrid thought about me,” he said.

“But I am at Roma, where I am totally fulfilled and ambitious. We all want to win titles here.

“The atmosphere in the changing room is fantastic. We are all very close, that is our secret.

“We are aiming for a place in the top four and to win the title, why not?

“We have desire, enthusiasm, a coach who knows how to get the best from all of us, and I feel loved and respected here.”

Mexes hoping that his recent displays can earn him an international recall.

“I believe I have never been in better form than today,” he added.

“I hope to be called for the French team to play in the Euro 2008 qualifiers. I can’t see how I could play better for my club.

“Deep inside I still believe that one day I will play more regularly in French team.

“There will always be a lot of competition, but I just have faith.”
