Egypt striker Mido’s permanent switch to Tottenham could be at risk after he developed a new injury.

The striker has missed the last three games with a groin injury but coach Martin Jol has now confirmed that Mido is also suffering from a knee problem.

“He couldn’t even do a fitness test, it was too painful on his knee – not his groin,” said Jol.

“At first it was his groin but he came back and now it’s his knee.”

The 22-year-old is nearing the end of his 18-month loan spell at White Hart Lane from Roma, and although he was expected to complete a permanent transfer to Spurs, the latest injury setbacks may jeopardise the move.

But Mido said: “Tottenham are still negotiating to keep me and I hope for that.

“But if it doesn’t work out then it’s not the end of the world, because if I’m not here next season I’ll be playing at another club.”
