Adrian Mutu has launched an appeal to the Premier League over his sacking by Chelsea for a positive drugs test.

The 25-year-old was suspended for seven months on 4 November by the Football Association after being sacked by the Premier League leaders in October for cocaine use.

Chelsea have hinted they want to recoup some of the £16m they gave Parma for the Romanian international.

“Chelsea is actively considering all options in relation to any financial loss as a result of this case,” the club, now Premier League leaders, said when they sacked Mutu.

Mutu and Chelsea could go to a Football League appeals committee if they are unhappy with the hearing’s verdict.
