Robert Pires is considering a move to Villarreal after admitting his agent held talks with the club Arsenal knocked out of the Champions League.

Pires’ contract at Arsenal runs out at the end of the season and he has been speaking to other clubs because he is unhappy that the London club have only offered him a one-year deal.

“It’s true that there has been contact between Villarreal and my agent,” said the 32-year-old midfielder.

“I haven’t made a decision yet. I’ve played many years at Arsenal and it’s a difficult decision to make.”

Pires came off the bench in the second leg of Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final victory over Villarreal on Tuesday.

And Pires added: “I discovered Villarreal and its atmosphere.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger seems unconcerned that Pires is speaking to other clubs.

“He is completely free to speak with whom he wants. I am not shocked by that and can understand that,” said Wenger.

“I just hope that in the end he will say ‘I will stay one more year at Arsenal’.”
