Real Madrid confident of signing Dutch prodigy Royston Drenthe.

The 20-year-old Feyenoord midfielder was the Player of the Tournament at the recent Uefa Under 21 Championship and most of Europe’s big hitters were impressed.

Chelsea and Barcelona have both expressed an interest, but Real seem set to seal a deal for the versatile left sider.

“The truth is that I cannot let this pass, it is Real Madrid,” he is quoted as saying in AS.

“This type of train comes along one in your life and at 20 years of age I cannot afford to miss it.”.

“It is Real Madrid. What if something happens in the next two years and they do not want me then?”

However, Drenthe did express a preference for joining Real’s arch-rivals Barcelona.

“My team is Feyenoord, but on an international level I have always been a fan of Barcelona,” he admitted.

Real president Ramon Calderon has admitted that he expects Drenthe to sign shortly.

“It seems that the transfer of Drenthe is going well and things should be closed within hours,” he confirmed.

“They tell me he is a fantastic player and I hope that everything is done fast.”
