Real Madrid have made a fresh offer for Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy after Manchester United turned down their initial bid last week.

“The club have made a new offer and are waiting for reply from Manchester,” a Real spokesman said on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old striker is being courted by both Real and Bayern Munich, after he revealed he wanted to leave Old Trafford.

Spanish media report that Real have bid 15 million euros.

Van Nistelrooy, a prolific striker during his five years with the club, fell out with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and spent much of the latter part of last season on the bench.

The striker has returned to training at Old Trafford and Ferguson said: “At this moment in time Ruud is still a United player.

“He did very well in training on Monday. He showed a good attitude, which is good.”
