Jose Antonio Reyes is set to join Atletico Madrid, according to reports emanating from Spain.

Marca claims Atletico have emerged as the leading contenders to sign the Arsenal winger, despite interest from Real Madrid where he spent last season on loan.

The former Sevilla star had hoped to stay at Real after helping them to win La Liga, but the Spanish champions could not agree a fee with Arsenal.

Atletico are now ready to offer Reyes the chance to secure a permanent move to La Liga by offering him a four-year deal.

Reyes is hopeful a deal can be agreed soon.

“I am delighted to be staying in Madrid. It is certain I will be staying in the capital, although we’ll have to wait a little to see where I will be playing,” Reyes told Spanish television station La Sexta.

“It has been difficult working by myself and not being able to share a pre-season with my colleagues. For this reason, I am pleased everything is about to be resolved.”
