Roberto Carlos has hit back at Barcelona president Joan Gaspart over his attempt to wreck Real Madrid’s purchase of Ronaldo from Internazionale.

Barcelona pulled out of the prospective purchase of Madrid striker Fernando Morientes at the last minute, forcing Madrid and Inter back to the negotiating table over straight cash.

Despite Barcelona’s wrecking move, Madrid sealed the signing of Ronaldo, a long-time close friend as well as national team-mate of Roberto Carlos.

The Madrid leftback said: “Gaspart does not compare with Florentino Perez here at Madrid. Perez is the true boss. He sorts out the money, he gives all the orders and everyone respects him. He should be the model for every president.

‘Massimo Moratti, at Inter, is like Perez, for example. But not Gaspart. He is too busy getting himself in the newspapers all the time. A president’s job is to be president not self-publicist.”
