Portugal will be without Cristiano Ronaldo for both legs of their World Cup play-off against Bosnia-Herzegovina after it was confirmed that the Real Madrid player was not fit.

The 2008 World Player of the Year has been at the centre of a club-versus-county row, with the former Manchester United player a surprise inclusion in Carlos Queiroz’s squad, despite claims from is club that he was unfit.

However, statement on the Portuguese Football Federation’s official website confirmed the player’s absence.

“After clinical evaluation and imaging, it was concluded that the player is not physically able to take part with the national team for these games,” it read.
