Milan’s Rui Costa has revealed that he wants to end his career with Benfica, the club where he began his professional career in the early Nineties.

“I’ve been thinking about my return to Benfica ever since the day I left,” the 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder told Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday.

Rui Costa began his career with Benfica, playing for three years at the Stadium of Light until his transfer to Fiorentina in 1994. He signed for Milan at the beginning of last season in a deal worth £28 million.

“I don’t know when, but I believe it (the transfer) will go ahead,” he continued.

“I’ve always put off a return, but I hope it can happen as soon as possible.”
