Lawrie Sanchez has been named the new manager of Northern Ireland.

The former Wimbledon player, who won three caps for the country in the 1980s, said: “I am delighted, proud and honoured to be chosen to manage Northern Ireland.”

Sanchez takes over from Sammy McIlroy who resigned in October following a terrible EURO 2004 qualifying campaign.

Sanchez will bring in former international Gerry Armstrong as his assistant.
