Luiz Felipe Scolari has accused Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz of trying to undermine him because he wants his job as Portugal coach.

Scolari was unhapppy that Queiroz asked for Cristiano Ronaldo to be withdrawn from Portugal’s squad for their Euro 2008 qualifier against Kazakhstan.

Queiroz, who coached Portugal from 1990 to 1993, told Scolari that Ronaldo was injured and advised he be omitted from the squad to face Kazakhstan.

Scolari ignored the advice and started the winger against Kazakhstan, and has now told Queiroz to mind his own business.

“It seems he is trying to return to the Portuguese national team, where I am coach,” he said.

“He is working on it in the mass media.

“But there isn’t a problem between us – or at least, I don’t think there is.

“He said in the papers that Cristiano is injured, and to us in private he said he was okay to play.”
