Andrii Shevchenko, who will miss this week’s Champions League tie against Manchester United after fracturing a cheekbone, could be out of action for up to a month.

The original diagosis suggested that the Ukrainian would be out for a fortnight, but the Milan cliub doctire fears that assessment could turn out to be optimistic.

Shevchenko fractured a cheekbone in a clash of heads as Milan took on Cagliari on Saturday.

“Andrei could have suffered greater damage because it is a head injury,” said Milan’s chief medical officer Jean Pierre Meersseman.

“We must wait to know the time of his recovery but it will certainly not be less than two weeks.

“We will have to consider the psychological aspect of a player that has suffered a second facial injury in this season.”
