Celtic striker Chris Sutton will be out for six weeks after breaking his wrist in yesterday’s Scottish League Cup final defeat against Rangers.

Sutton was taken to hospital after collided with team-mate Dianbobo Balde in the 79th minute of a dramatic encounter which Rangers won 2-1. As both players went for the ball, Balde landed on the striker.

Sutton will now miss Celtic’s UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg against Liverpool on Thursday, as well as crucial matches in the Scottish Premier League and Scottish FA Cup.

Rangers won the first domestic trophy of the Scottish season against their arch rivals. After taking a two-goal half-time lead, Alex McCleish’s side were on the rack when Henrik Larsson reduced the arrears on 57 minutes. The game looked set for extra-time when Celtic were awarded a penalty in the final minute of the match. However, John Hartson screwed his shot wide and Rangers hung onto their lead.
