Chelsea defender John Terry has admitted his future at the club is uncertain as the Premier League club has yet to respond to his demand for a new contract.

The centre-back has been linked with a possible move to Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal.

“It is nice to be linked with big clubs like Arsenal, but I hope I don’t leave Chelsea, I really do,’ admitted Terry.

“I have told Chelsea I want to stay and hopefully they will get back to me in the summer, but I’m not sure.

“Even if we had not reached the Champions League, I’ve always stressed I want to stay at Chelsea but I’m waiting for them to come back to me.

“I want to commit myself to Chelsea and get it sorted out now, but being linked with Arsenal, and people saying Arsene Wenger is interested in me, is very nice.

“But I have to stress again I want to stay at Chelsea.”

Terry, who is in the England squad for the friendly international against South Africa, admitted he was unlikely to play in the match, but hopes to be fit for the friendly against Serbia & Montenegro and the Euro 2004 qualifier against Slovakia.

“I have had a thigh strain for the last three weeks,’ ‘But I hope to be training when we get out to South Africa.”
