Giovanni Trapattoni will lead Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualifying campaign after the Italian manager signed a new two-year contract.
The former Italy manager took charge last year and his new deal will again be part-funded by Irish billionaire Denis O’Brien, the Football Association of Ireland said on its website (www.fai.ie).
“This squad has huge potential. Our results demonstrate what self-belief and structure can achieve and I am really looking forward to continuing the work we have begun,” Trapattoni said in a statement.
Ireland, unbeaten in competitive matches under the Trapattoni trail leaders Italy by four points in World Cup European qualifying Group Eight and hold a five-point lead over third-placed Bulgaria.
