Fifa president Sepp Blatter is considering allowing a player to receive three yellow cards before being suspended in future World Cups.

Currently players only need to be shown two yellows in group or knock-out stage action to earn a suspension and miss their team’s next game.

“In the future there should perhaps be three yellow cards in a round before a suspension, and this is something we will take up,” Blatter said.

“This would avoid players in the semifinals on one yellow card who by bad luck may get a second and cannot play in the final.

“The referees should also first tell a player to calm down and then give him a yellow card the second time if it is not a very serious foul.”

Blatter added that any change in the rules would not affect this summer’s tournament in Germany.
