Scans today revealed Juventus’s leading scorer, Alessandro Del Piero, will be sidelined for five weeks with a pulled thigh muscle.

The injury has ruled the Juventus captain out of important Champions League matches against Manchester United at Old Trafford and the return leg, he will also miss the Champions League match against Deportivo La Coruna.

The injury leaves Juventus in a precarious postion as they balance on the edge of qualification to the knock-out stages of the Champions League; they lie second in their group D two points behind Man Utd and three in front of Coruna.

Del Piero told the official Juventus web site: “I’ll be out for about five weeks before I can resume training again.

“I’m saddened that I will miss so many games, especially the two against Manchester United, but when I return I will make up for my absence.” he added.
