Juventus striker Marco Di Vaio has been given the all-clear after being knocked unconscious in yesterday’s Champions League match with Newcastle.

The former Parma striker was rushed to hospital after an accidental clash of heads with Andy O’Brien, during which di Vaio amost swallowed his tongue.

After undergoing scans, di Vaio was given the all-clear and will be released from hospital later today.

“I was lucky,” he said. ‘Everything has turned out ok.”

The club’s chief medical officer, Fabrizio Tencone, confirmed that there repurcussions for the player.

“He lost consciousness but almost immediately regained it,’ said Tencone. ‘We only put an oxygen mask on him in order to ease his breathing.

“He’ll probably take it easy over the next week but their won’t be any problems.”
