A footballer has died from an injury suffered on the pitch following a horror challenge during an Indonesian Premier League match.

Persiraja striker Akli Fairuz was injured after he was kicked in the stomach by PSAP Sigli goalkeeper Agus Rahman as the pair clashed in pursuit of a loose ball.

Frontman Fairuz was substituted but managed to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines.

However, his condition deteriorated and he was subsequently admitted to hospital suffering bladder leakage.

Sadly, a few days after the match, he died from his internal injuries.
