Manchester United fans staged a demonstration at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening to protest against Malcolm Glazer’s plan to buy the club.
More than 400 fans were involved in the protest after word was spread using the internet and mobile phones.
Chanting: “He’s gonna die, Malcolm Glazer’s gonna die, how we’ll kill him I don’t know, cut him up from head to toe,” suppoters hung an effigy fof Glaxer from the club’s gates.
More than 100 fans ignored police requests to clear the road outside the stadium’s main entrance and carried out a sit-down protest.
Police kept a low key presence as protesters marched around the stadium, although two men were arrested for public order offences during the demonstration.
The protest follows the lastest attempt by Glazer, who owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL team, to buy United.
His previous bids for the club were rejected by the board because of the high level of long-term debt they would incur.
Oliver Houston, vice-chairman of the fans pressure group, Shareholders United, said: “Our message to Manchester United is to close the book on Malcolm Glazer.
“He wants to know where the money is coming from within the club. Well it comes from us, the fans.
“If he takes over there won’t be any coming in because we will not buy the merchandise, we will not go to the matches and United will not get the income they get now.”
