There were a number of contenders for Goal of the Day in Real Madrid’s impressive 6-1 Champions League victory over Schalke, but in the end the accolade goes to Cristiano Ronaldo after he bamboozled Joel Matip for his side’s third.

Collecting a pass from Gareth Bale, Ronaldo leaves the Cameroonian defender tackling air before unleashing a venomous left foot drive past the keeper.

Ronaldo now has 61 goals in the Champions League and lies third in the all-time standings behind Real and Schalke striker Raul (71) and current Barcelona’s Lionel Messi (66).
