Birmingham are closing in on the signing of Brazilian striker Marcio Amoroso on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old missed the Blues pre-season tour due to injury, but will still discuss a move with manager Steve Bruce.

Amoroso impressed the Premiership club while on trial earlier in the month and is available for no fee after being released by Borussia Dortmund. The forward has also played in Europe for Udinese and Parma, and is thought to have rejected a deal to take him to Celtic next season.

Blues manager Bruce is also due to follow up his interest in former England international midfielder Darren Anderton, who has been released by Tottenham after 12 years at the club.
