Newcastle United midfielder Lee Bowyer has been charged with violent conduct following his fight with team mate Kieron Dyer during Saturday’s Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Bowyer and Dyer were sent off and both face automatic three-match bans. Bowyer was fined a club record six weeks’ wages by Newcastle on Monday but the club said it would appeal against Dyer’s dismissal.

Bowyer’s case is due to be heard by the FA’s Disciplinary Commission on April 22. It has the option of extending Bowyer’s ban and fining him.

Bowyer and Dyer apologised immediately after the match and patched up their differences in front of the cameras on Monday.
