Roma have signed Leeds United’s French international midfield player Olivier Dacourt until the end of the season.

Dacourt moves to the Olimpico stadium on loan until June, but should he impress Fabio Capello, he will have the option of completing a reported €6.4m move

The former Strasbourg, Everton and Lens player agreed terms last week but it has taken the two clubs several days to agree on a transfer fee, should Roma decide on a permanent deal.

The 28-year-old settled personal terms with Roma a week ago but it was only last night that the two clubs agreed on the transfer fee to be paid in the event of a permanent deal.

Roma coach Fabio Capello has been looking for a an aggressive, hard-working midfield player for severall months. His initial target was Juventus’ Edgar Davids, but Capello was unable to prise the Dutchman away from the Scudetto holders.

Ironically, Dacourt was a target for Roma’s arch-rivals Lazio in the summer, but he turned down a chance of a move to Rome because of the racist reputation of some of the club’s supporters.
