Lazio owner Cirio is seeking to sell its stake in the Italian club to cleardebts, plunging the future of the club into doubt.

Food manufacturer Cirio plans to sell its 35 percent share in Lazio following its announcement of net loss in the past nine months of 60million euros.

The company has debts of around œ100million and is struggling to meet its repayments.

Lazio already face legal action from Manchester United and Valencia for the non-payment of tranfer fees for Jaap Stam and Gaizka Mendieta respectively.

Concerns are growing that Laziomay go the same way as Fiorentina, who were demoted to the third division following huge financial problems.

Italian media have reported that wealthy Lazio supporter Ernesto Bertarelli, head of Swiss consortium Alinghi, may be interested in buying the club.
