Real Betis’ Brazilian midfielder Denilson is joining Bordeaux on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee, the French Ligue 1 club hjave confirmed.

Denilson, who is 28 on Wednesday, joined Betis after the 1998 World Cup for a then-world record fee of $35 million.

He returned to Brazil for a brief loan spell with Flamengo in September 2000 after Betis were relegated, but was on his way back to Spain after just four months when the Brazilian club failed to keep up its payments.

His time at Betis has been hampered by a series of knee injuries and last season he also fell out of favour with coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer.
