Marcel Desailly has been given a three-match ban by UEFA that will rule him out of the second leg of Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final as well as the final, should Chelsea overcome Monaco.

The Chelsea skipper appeared to elbow Fernando Morientes in the second half of the 3-1 first-leg defeat to Monaco.

Desailly has until before midnight on Monday 26 April to appeal against the decision for violent conduct.

If the ban is upheld, he will join compatriot Claude Makelele on the sidelines for the second leg.
