Everton have confirmed that they have opened negotiations with Chelsea over Scott Parker.

The Merseyside club who have the opportunity of playing Champions League next season, have been linked with the England international over the past few weeks and now chief executive Keith Wyness has confirmed that talks are ongoing.

“We have been in discussions,” said Wyness.

Parker looks set to leave Stamford Bridge after failing to secure a regular first team berth following his £10 million move from Charlton in January 2004. Everton would have to pay £6m for the 24-year-old, although his reported wages of £55,000 a week could prove a stumbing block.
