Belgian Eric Gerets has been appointed coach of Kaiserslautern, in place of former Germany defender Andreas Brehme, who was sacked last week.
Gerets, 48, who quit Dutch PSV Eindhoven at the end of last season, has signed a two-year deal, the German first division club confirmed.
Brehme became the first coaching casualtyof the new Bundesliga season when he was dismissed after just three matches of the campaign.
