John Hartson has agreed a new deal with Celtic and will remain with the club until May 2007.

The deal ends months of speculation surrounding the Welsh international’s future, in which he was linked with a move to Germany.

“Reports that said I was looking for a move elsewhere and I was using other clubs to gain a better deal are not true at all,” said 29-year-old Hartson.

“I always wanted to stay and I made that clear to the manager. It was just a matter of sorting a few things out.”

Hartson has scored 77 goals in 139 appearances since arriving at Celtic in 2001.

“I have enjoyed the success I have had in the previous three-and-a-half years – winning the championship in my first year and the Uefa Cup run when we had a few good results,” added Hartson.

“I have also scored plenty of goals and I look forward to achieving more success which is all that I want.”
