Italy are considering bidding to host the European Championship in 2012.

Italian football federation president Franco Carraro has admitted that the country would need to rebuild several stadia and would require government funding.

“To host Euro 2012, we would need eight cities with facilities like airports, hotels, motorways and railways in good condition,” said Carraro.

“More than that, we would need stadia capable of giving high comfort standard to the audience.

“Stadio Olimpico is obsolete and the San Siro too. Even our best stadia would need renovation.

“We will open contact with the government because if they do not have the will, the candidacy will be useless.”
