Oliver Kahn, Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane have been shortlisted for FIFA’s 2002 World Player of the Year award.

Kahn is hoping to become the first goalkeeper to claim the honor since its inception in 1991, afetr his rfemarkable performances for Germany during the World Cup finals.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo Real Madrid team-mate Zidane, of France, will both be looking to win the award for the third time. The Brazilian shone for his country during the World Cup finals, while Zidane was instrumental in Real Madrid’s Champions League success.

The winner will be announced at FIFA’s world player gala in Madrid on December17. The award is voted for by more than 140 national team coaches.

Kahn will also receive the award for best player of the 2002 World Cup – the Golden Ball, with Ronaldo receiving the Silver Ball as runner-upand South Korean captain Hong Myung-Bo the Bronze Ball.

Ronaldo will also be presented with the Golden Shoe for finishing as the leading scorer in the World Cup finals.
